Taste Hungarian Tradition
What is Palinka?
Pálinka is a typical Hungarian fruit brandy, a strong alcoholic beverage appreciated for its potency, flavor, and fragrance. It is protected as a geographical indication of the European Union and only fruit spirits mashed, distilled, matured and bottled in Hungary can be called “pálinka”. Making pálinka has become an art in Hungary, much like the practice of making Hungarian wine, and many people enjoy pálinka as a way to begin or end a meal.

If you plan a visit to the West of Hungary, we recommend a visit to the Birkás Palinka House, where you will be able to taste the famous drink. In addition to the tasting, you will actually learn how the fruit brandy is made and bottled. What is needed to make pálinka? A lot of fruit, a specific set of equipment, and patience, but don’t worry, the master distillers will tell you all about it.

The Birkás Palinka House and Conference Room is an excellent venue for palinka tasting, for corporate and family events, and for conferences as well. You will also be able to take a bottle of palinka home, as they have a dedicated shop.
