For all wine lovers, Maribor is the place to be. Sunny wine-growing hills stretch around Styrian capital all the way to the Austrian border and beyond. Many brilliant winemakers offer to business guests an exclusive experience of wine-tasting in their cellars where they produce their golden and ruby liquids.

In the village of Svečina, 20 km from the city of Maribor, wine-making is a part of a long-standing tradition and heritage. Valdhuber family has been there making wine for already the fourth generation. The Valdhuber name and its vineyards symbolize the old vineyard glory of the Svečina village.

Valdhubers produce great white as well as red wines of the best varieties. For the family, the wine has been a way of living and Bogomir (Mirč) Valdhuber and his family as the fourth generation has been continuing the tradition.

The family nourishes 7 hectares of vineyards. To most of the white grapes on the vines, pinot noir keeps company. Valdhuber wines also received many prestigious awards, among them in 2010 at the DECANTER World Wine Awards.

Valdhuber Family is also very proud that Queen Elizabeth II, while on a diplomatic visit to Slovenia in 2008, drank Valdhuber’s Traminer at the gala dinner hosted at the Brdo Castle.

The Valdhuber estate, though, does not consist only of vineyards, but also of a cellar and tourist farm which offers to visitors wine-tasting as well as culinary delights. Wine tasting room can take up to 35 persons. For those that prefer taking a longer time in enjoying wines and beautiful surroundings, three apartments are provided.

For the Valdhuber estate and cellar, wine is a poetry, philosophy, and a challenge. But, as they say, wine is also a knowledge and a progress, a noble human companion in life because the human and wine are in many ways similar. Business guests can experience this first hand at the Valdhuber winery, a short drive from Maribor’s city centre.
